Pinterest is testing AI-driven custom boards tailored to individual users

Pinterest is testing AI-driven custom boards tailored to individual users

On Monday, Pinterest revealed a series of AI-enhanced updates to its boards, aiming to deliver a more tailored experience for users. Among the new features are an AI-powered collage tool called “Styled for you,” which assists users in assembling outfits from their saved fashion Pins, and “Boards made for you,” which are custom boards curated with the help of AI.

With “Styled for you” collages, users can mix and match clothing and accessories to craft unique outfits that reflect their personal tastes. By selecting an item within the collage, users can browse through AI-suggested saved Pins for further outfit combinations.

Pinterest is also piloting “Boards made for you,” which are personalized boards created using a combination of editorial curation and AI-driven recommendations. These boards, which highlight popular trends, weekly outfit ideas, and items available for purchase, will appear in users’ main feeds and inboxes.

The company is starting to test these AI capabilities in the U.S. and Canada, with plans to expand their availability over the coming months.

Pinterest explains that these AI enhancements are designed to transform boards from simple organizational features into a more customized way to discover, shop, and get inspired by outfit ideas. This move supports Pinterest’s broader vision of becoming an “AI-enabled shopping assistant,” as the CEO mentioned during the company’s Q2 earnings report. The platform already utilizes AI for features like personalized recommendations and visual search.

At the same time as it introduces more AI-powered tools, Pinterest is also working to limit the presence of AI-generated content. In April, the company shared plans to add labels to images that are created or altered by AI. Additionally, users now have options to decrease the amount of AI-generated Pins shown in their feeds.

Alongside these AI initiatives, Pinterest will introduce new tabs that organize Pins by category, accessible when viewing boards from user profiles. These changes are expected to be available worldwide in the near future.

One of the upcoming tabs, “Make It Yours,” will suggest fashion and home decor items based on a user’s saved Pins. The “More Ideas” tab will offer recommendations in areas like beauty, recipes, and art, while the “All Saves” tab will provide quick access to all previously saved Pins.
