Meta is now integrating its AI-driven photo and video editing features directly into Instagram Stories, letting users type in prompts to add, remove, or completely transform elements in their photos and videos.
Previously, Instagram users could only access image editing through the Meta AI chatbot, which limited how they could use these tools. Now, with the ability to use text prompts in Stories, these editing options are much easier to use.
You’ll find these new tools in the “Restyle” section at the top of Instagram Stories, accessible by tapping the paintbrush icon. To make changes, select “add,” “remove,” or “change” and describe your desired edit in the prompt field. For example, Meta says you can request a new hair color, place a crown on your head, or swap in a sunset as the background.

There are also ready-made effects available that let you change your outfit or the overall look of your image. For instance, you can add accessories like sunglasses or a biker jacket, or apply a watercolor filter. For videos, you might make it appear as if it’s snowing or add fire effects.
Keep in mind that by using Meta AI on Instagram, you agree to Meta’s AI Terms of Service, which permit the AI to analyze your media and facial features. These terms state that when you upload images, Meta may “summarize image contents, modify images, and generate new content based on the image.”

Meta is steadily rolling out new AI features to stay ahead in the industry. Recently, it was seen testing a “Write with Meta AI” prompt, which helps Instagram users generate creative comments for their posts.
In the past month, Meta also introduced an AI-powered video feed called “Vibes” within the Meta AI app, which appears to have driven more downloads. According to Similarweb, daily active users on iOS and Android climbed to 2.7 million by October 17, up from around 775,000 four weeks earlier.
To help address parental concerns, Meta announced new parental controls earlier this month. These features let parents turn off chats with AI characters and keep track of the topics their teens are discussing with the Meta AI chatbot.
