According to the pledge, Bhutan will use bitcoin produced from surplus clean energy to support long-term infrastructure financing, partnership development, and national financial resilience.

This initiative, led by King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, leverages digital assets to enhance economic resilience, create high-quality jobs, and cultivate youth skills as part of a global marketing strategy.

Bhutan has built a considerable bitcoin reserve through state-backed mining operations such as Druk Holding & Investments (DHI).

The Gelephu Mindfulness City has set plans to include major digital assets such as bitcoin, ethereum, and BNB in its strategic reserves, making it an early adopter of holding cryptocurrencies at the jurisdictional level.
