Guaranteed Income Program Prepares To Hand $8,000,000 To Residents in West Coast County – Here’s Who Will Benefit
A guaranteed income program is preparing to hand out $8 million in no-strings-attached cash to young people in a West Coast county.
Measure L is set to give at least $750 in monthly cash payments to people in Sacramento County between 18 and 24 years old who have been in the foster care system, reports the Sacramento Bee.
Measure L is a 2022 ballot initiative that allocates a portion of cannabis tax revenue to provide services to young people and assist those living below the poverty line.
Says Mónica Ruelas Mares of the Sacramento Children’s Fund Planning and Oversight Commission,
“This is a program that I think we could all agree is probably one of the most, if not the most important, within this fund.”
While the nitty-gritty details of the program have not been finalized, people looking to qualify for a slot must have an income at or below 200% of the federal poverty level, or about $31,000 per year.
Applicants must have residency ties to the Sacramento County region, and they must not be receiving funds from another guaranteed income program. The project is slated to begin in July of 2026.
Data shows that 587 foster youth were living in Sacramento County from July 2024 to June 2025.
