Ledger unveiled a new generation of digital security products at its Op3n event in Paris on Thursday, including the Ledger Nano Gen5 device, the Ledger Wallet app — formerly known as Ledger Live — and an update to its Enterprise Multisig platform for institutions.
According to the company, the new line marks a transition from an exclusive focus on cryptocurrency storage to a more comprehensive digital identity and security ecosystem, adapted to the challenges brought about by the era of artificial intelligence.
Ledger announced that its physical devices will now be known as "Ledger Signers," reflecting their expanded role in protecting identities, smart contracts, and digital assets. The Nano Gen5, the latest model in its popular hardware wallet series, features Bluetooth and NFC connectivity, a touchscreen E Ink display, and features such as Clear Signature, Transaction Verification, and a physical Recovery Key, which allows for restored access if lost.
The device's design was in collaboration with Tony Fadell, creator of the iPod, and designer Susan Kare, who developed exclusive iconography for the interface.
“The Ledger Nano series is the most successful digital asset security device of all time, with millions of units sold and none of them ever hacked,”
said Pascal Gauthier, CEO of Ledger.
“The new Nano was developed for today’s challenges and opportunities and is ready for those of the future.”
The redesigned and rebranded Ledger Wallet app has been described as an “intuitive control center for your digital assets.” The app allows you to buy, sell, trade, and swap cryptocurrencies, as well as connect directly to DeFi applications like 1inch. Integration with Noah's Cash-To-Stablecoin feature makes it easy to convert fiat currency to USDC without additional fees.
For financial institutions and crypto-native enterprises, the company launched Ledger Enterprise Multisig, a multi-signature solution for smart contract governance and treasury management. All transactions are verified on Ledger devices, creating a single point of secure validation.
Ledger has confirmed that the Nano Gen5 is now available for public shipping for $179, after being tested by its internal security team Donjon and evaluated by independent experts.
