Vitalik Buterin: Hopes developers can express their performance in terms of ratios rather than "N operations per second"
Jinse Finance reported that Vitalik Buterin posted on X, stating, "I hope more ZK and FHE developers can express their performance in terms of ratio (encrypted computation time vs. raw computation time), that is, 'time required for encrypted computation / time required for raw computation,' rather than simply saying 'we can do N operations per second.' This approach is more hardware-independent and provides a very valuable metric: how much efficiency am I sacrificing to enable encryption/privacy features for my application, instead of relying on trust mechanisms? This method is also generally more useful for estimation, because as a developer, I already know roughly how long the raw computation takes, so I just need to multiply by this ratio to estimate the overhead of encryption."
