OpenAI completes stock transaction at a record $500 billion valuation
According to a report by Jinse Finance, a person familiar with the matter revealed that OpenAI has completed a transaction allowing current and former employees to sell shares worth approximately $6.6 billion at a company valuation of $500 billion. This secondary transaction has pushed the valuation of the ChatGPT developer beyond that of Elon Musk’s SpaceX, making it the world’s most valuable startup. Previously, in a $40 billion funding round led by SoftBank Group, OpenAI was valued at $300 billion. The source stated that as part of the deal, OpenAI employees sold shares to a group of investors including Thrive Capital, SoftBank, Dragoneer Investment Group, Abu Dhabi’s MGX, and T. Rowe Price.
