US House of Representatives passes temporary spending bill, Senate may face intense confrontation
BlockBeats News, September 19—According to US media reports, the US House of Representatives has passed a temporary spending bill aimed at avoiding a federal government shutdown crisis on October 1. However, this also means the Senate will have to engage in heated debate over the bill later on Friday—Democrats are expected to reject the bill on the grounds that "increased healthcare spending" is needed. House Speaker Johnson overcame opposition from some Republican colleagues, pushing the bill through with a vote of 217 in favor and 212 against.
Almost all House Democrats voted against the bill. The Senate plans to review both the House-submitted bill and an "alternative temporary spending bill" proposed by Democratic leader Schumer later on Friday (this bill would fund the government through October 31). Both versions are expected to be rejected, which means that with less than two weeks before the October 1 deadline, the US government will be stuck in a shutdown crisis deadlock. (Golden Ten Data)
