Ethereum Layer 2 Network Reserves Plummet, Optimism ETH Holdings Drop by Over 50%
According to ChainCatcher, data shows that Ethereum reserves on major Layer 2 networks have declined rapidly in recent times, with the overall ETH balance dropping by about 25% over the past few months. Specifically, ETH reserves on Optimism have plummeted 54% since March, while Arbitrum and Base have seen decreases of 17% and 14%, respectively.
Analysts point out that the main reasons are the weak performance of native L2 tokens, waning investor interest, and some funds flowing back to the Ethereum mainnet. Meanwhile, both the amount of staked ETH and the number of long-term holding addresses continue to reach new highs. The migration of funds from centralized platforms such as Binance may also be one of the driving factors behind ETH withdrawals from L2.
