Ethereum Researcher: Compared to Bitcoin, Launching a 51% Attack on Ethereum is More Difficult and Costly
Ethereum researcher Justin Drake stated that the cost of launching a 51% attack on Bitcoin is approximately $10 billion, which is significantly lower than the cost of attacking Ethereum. He pointed out that Ethereum's PoS mechanism not only increases the cost of attacks but also provides additional security through the community's social coordination mechanisms. Justin Drake emphasized that the Ethereum community can identify and punish attackers, an advantage not present in the PoW mechanism. Additionally, Matan Sitbon, founder of blockchain interoperability developer Lightblocks, also stated that Ethereum's ultimate security relies not only on cryptography or protocol rules but also on the community's strong social and economic coordination mechanisms.
