Democratic lawmakers to oppose tomorrow's joint hearing of the House Financial Services Committee/House Agriculture Committee
The top Democrat on the U.S. House Financial Services Committee, Representative Maxine Waters, will block her committee from holding a joint hearing with the House Agriculture Committee on the market structure discussion draft bill unveiled on Monday. According to House rules, all participants must unanimously agree to proceed with a joint hearing. According to CoinDesk, a Democratic staffer stated that Waters will oppose the joint hearing and prevent it from going ahead as planned, citing her concerns over former U.S. President Donald Trump's recent increasing interactions with cryptocurrency. The Financial Services Committee and the Agriculture Committee announced last week that they would hold a joint hearing on market structure issues and released the first draft of the bill addressing this issue on Monday, which includes how the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) will regulate cryptocurrency.
