SEC Ends Meeting with Ripple: XRP vs. SEC Case Nears Resolution on April 16

The legal battle that began in December 2020 when the SEC accused Ripple of selling XRP as an unregistered security has resulted in a nearly 80% drop in the price of XRP. This case appears to be heading towards its conclusion in 2025. At the time of publication, the price of XRP today is trading at $2,01, down 7,8% in the last 24 hours.

Although it is a long-running case, it is worth remembering that the SEC has recently reached agreements with other companies in the cryptocurrency sector, such as Coinbase, Gemini and Consensys.

Marc Fagel, a former SEC attorney, shared in a post on X that the SEC concluded a meeting with Ripple on Thursday, in which he explained his view of the case, clarifying several points: “Reminder: These are two completely unrelated things. ETFs are not discussed in the weekly closed meeting. And, as always, the schedule for the closed meeting is confidential and there is no more reason to think Ripple is on the agenda than there has been in the last 200 meetings.”

Regarding Ripple’s legal dispute, Fagel noted that while the court ruled that Ripple violated the law, the SEC could theoretically drop its appeal. This scenario, while atypical, highlights a possible attempt by the SEC to settle before Ripple’s defense brief is due, which is scheduled to be filed by April 16.
