Illinois and Indiana have introduced legislative proposals to establish strategic Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC) reserves, reflecting a growing trend among U.S. states to explore Bitcoin as a viable financial asset.

Illinois' House Bill 1844 aims to create a Bitcoin reserve fund, viewing Bitcoin as a potential hedge against inflation and economic instability.

“A strategic bitcoin reserve aligns with Illinois’ commitment to fostering innovation in digital assets and providing Illinoisans with enhanced financial security,” stated State Representative John M. Cabello, who sponsored the bill.

The proposed fund would be managed by the State Treasurer and includes provisions for accepting Bitcoin donations from both residents and government entities.

Additionally, the bill mandates a minimum holding period of five years for any Bitcoin added to the fund before it can be sold or converted.

This legislation emphasises transparency and outlines guidelines for secure management of the fund.

In contrast, Indiana's House Bill 1322 focuses on both blockchain technology applications and Bitcoin investment strategies.

Authored by Representative Jake Teshka, this bill directs the Department of Administration to investigate how blockchain could enhance government efficiency and data security.

The bill also allows state-managed investments in Bitcoin through exchange-traded funds (ETFs), including both spot and futures ETFs.

These initiatives come as other states like Utah and Arizona are advancing similar legislation aimed at investing public funds in digital assets.

Moreover, Texas has made the establishment of a Bitcoin reserve a priority for 2025, with other states such as South Dakota and Kentucky likely to follow suit.

At the time of reporting, the Bitcoin (BTC) price was $105,081.
