In May, approximately 455,000 types of tokens have been created on the Solana blockchain, possibly driven by factors such as a surge in demand for Meme coins
Due to the low entry barrier and surging demand for creating popular memecoins, a total of 455,000 tokens were created on the Solana blockchain in May. In comparison, 177,000 tokens were created on Ethereum Layer 2 Base, and 39,000 tokens were created on BNB chain. The number of tokens created on Ethereum mainnet and Layer 2 networks Arbitrum and Optimism is less than 20,000.
Most of the Solana tokens are memecoins as they have attracted the attention of cryptocurrency enthusiasts. This trend emerged as certain Solana-based memecoins (such as Dogwifhat, Bonk and Book of Meme) rapidly rose in ranking in the cryptocurrency market. Partly thanks to Pump.fun - a website where you can create a token with just a few clicks - it has stimulated more token issuance over the past few months; so far this year Solana has issued one million one hundred thousand new tokens.
