Solana Community Votes on Proposal to Allocate 100% of Priority Fees to Validators
According to the official governance page, the Solana community has voted to approve a proposal to allocate 100% of priority fees to verifiers, replacing the current structure of 50% destruction and 50% reward. The vote, which ended at the end of 620 epochs with 51.17% stake participation, passed with 77.77% in favor. In previous news, tao-stones posted "Proposal to Enable Full Priority Fee Rewards to Verifiers on Solana Mainnet-beta" in the Solana Developer Forums, suggesting that the priority fee structure be adjusted so that 100% of the priority fees are rewarded to verifiers to ensure that verifiers have the proper incentives to prioritize the security and efficiency of the network. Discussion sponsor tao-stones indicated that implementation of this proposal would require the use of feature gating. While the payment structure for transaction submitters would not change, the software containing this proposal would allocate a larger percentage of fees to validators than previous versions. Thus, feature gating is critical to ensure a smooth transition to the new functionality for all validators at the epoch boundary, thus maintaining consensus.
