News on May 14th, NEAR Protocol announced that the number of shards in its mainnet has increased from 4 to 6, resulting in a 50% increase in the network's transaction processing capacity. It is expected that by the end of Q2 in 2024, NEAR will also launch stateless verification functionality on the mainnet, at which time the throughput of each shard is expected to increase by another five times.
