EigenLayer airdrop plan sparks debate: community calls for fairer token distribution
PANews reported on April 30 that according to Be In Crypto, earlier today, the liquidity re-pledge protocol EigenLayer announced that it will launch a native token in May, and pledgers will receive a 15% airdrop. When community members realized that only 15% of the tokens would be distributed through what EigenLayer calls a "stakedrop," their initial enthusiasm waned. Specifically, in the first distribution season, only 5% of the total token supply will be rewarded based on a snapshot of user staking activity as of March 15, 2024. In addition, 90% of the tokens in this distribution will not be available until May 10 and will not be immediately transferable, which has exacerbated the community's frustration. This distribution method is in stark contrast to the 55% of tokens obtained for project investors and early contributors. This difference has sparked strong criticism within the cryptocurrency community, reflecting a broader debate about the fairness of token distribution.
Cryptocurrency investor CoinMamba expressed their concerns and pointed out the uneven distribution. He said: "The EigenLayer team and investors will receive a 55% distribution share, but stakers will only receive 5%, and it cannot be transferred at the beginning. The greed shown by cryptocurrency developers and venture capitalists surprises me every time." Analyst CryptoTelugu agrees with this view, and he advocates a fairer airdrop. CryptoTelugu said: "I think rewarding eligible users with a certain number of tokens will make the airdrop fair, and I hope they can hear our voice."
