Bloomberg: Sam Altman’s final decision may be resolved by 9:00 today
According to sources cited by Bloomberg on November 20th, several OpenAI executives and investors are trying to restore CEO Sam Altman to his position, but are deadlocked over the composition and selection of the board of directors.
Sam Altman is currently open to returning, but wants to see changes in governance, including the removal of current board members and a statement clarifying the various "improper behaviors" disclosed in the dismissal announcement. The board initially agreed in principle to Altman's request, but has so far refused to formally implement it. Executives pushing for Altman's return and board reform include interim CEO Mira Murati, Chief Strategy Officer Jason Kwon, and Chief Operating Officer Brad Lightcap.
Some sources say that Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella played a key role in the negotiations. (Microsoft is OpenAI's largest investor, with an investment of $13 billion).
The board has agreed to set a deadline for Sam Altman and his supporters' demands at 5 p.m. Pacific Time (9 a.m. Beijing Time today).
